Its Ok Thursdays

It’s OK….

…to realize it’s ok to take a break from working out sometimes, as long as you start up again.

…to look at your “new” circle of friends and feel your heart warm as you see them getting along and hear all of the laughter.

…to just want to sit on the couch and read a book.

…to be really excited about an upcoming “staycation” with my mom.

…to be addicted to Chobani Flips yogurt. (The peach/pistachio and the cocoloco flavors are amazing!)

…to eat the same dinner every night you cook at home for a week. (Quesadillas are easy!)

…to have an impromptu dance party in your living room while cleaning just because you’re finally home alone.

Fitness Friday: A Playlist

I can’t take credit for the playlist shown below. My guy actually made this playlist for me to “Get Pumped Up” for my workouts. I removed a couple of songs he had on my playlist and shared the rest. This playlist should give you a good hour long workout with great music.

Some of My Favorite Things: April

I had plans for a completely different set of favorite things this month but the last weekend in April I went to MerleFest, which is a bluegrass festival in Wilkes County, NC. I spent two days looking at jewelry, local foods, and listening/dancing to some of the best music I’ve heard in a long while. So this post is dedicated to my new finds that I don’t know how I lived without.

Let’s talk about this beautiful jewelry by Isabella Glass for a second. My aunt has worn this stuff for years and we came across her booth. I bought 3 different things. Then I found out she’s actually located in Maryland and will be at Wine in the Woods in a few weeks, which is my hometown festival that I’m planning on going to this year. I get paid…twice…before that festival. Dear Bank Account, I’m sorry.

The music! Oh my, the music.

The Black Lillies

The Black Lillies

The Black Lillies band is amazing. I heard them on one stage on Friday afternoon and immediately looked up to see when I could hear them again. Just gorgeous music!

Delta Rae

Delta Rae

I actually overheard Delta Rae playing while I was eating lunch on Friday. I made a point of going to see their performance on Saturday. Boy, am I glad I did. The vocals were out of this world and the way they performed was so unique and cool. I ran to the music tent after their performance to snap up their CD for sure.

I can’t say enough about this band–Scythian. My family got me into them. I listened to them perform 4 times while I was at MerleFest. But my favorite time listening to them by far was in the Dance Tent on Friday night. There was jumping, dancing, bouncing, and singing. They’re amazingly talented and you can’t help but dance (or at least bounce) when you hear them. They have great energy and get the crowd so involved. I love them!

All of these bands gave me great music to listen to on my drive home. And I have beautiful jewelry to wear for years to come.

Its Ok Thursdays

It’s OK….

…to not be the fastest person, as long as you finish.

…to want to skip all workdays and only want a week made of Saturdays and Sundays.

…to stare at your new muscle tone in the mirror every evening.

…to have your obsession with Cowboy Troy renewed (even if your first obsession was weird to everyone else).

…to let your favorite person help you carry your burdens (literally and figuratively).

…to have 3 calendars you update to keep yourself organized.

…to be excited to have your family welcome you in no matter how late you might get in.

Friday Fitness: 80s Workout Playlist

I’ve been playing around playlists lately. I decided I wanted a good 80s playlist to workout to. So below I present you with what is quickly becoming one of my favorite playlists.

Do you have theme playlists? What are your favorite themes to workout to?

New Cardio Playlist

I needed a new playlist for Bootie and Boot Camp. So I poured through my iTunes and put together a playlist that lasts about a hour. It’s all very upbeat and will keep you moving.

Pump Up the Jam – Technotronic
Pump It – Black Eyed Peas
Evacuate the Dancefloor – Cascada
Party Rock Anthem – Lmfao
I Like to Move It – Reel to Real
Say Hey (I Love You) – Michael Franti
I Like it Like That – Tito Nieves
Little Bad Girl – David Guetta
It Girl – Jason Derulo
Hot ‘N Cold – Katy Perry
The Boys Are Back in Town – Thin Lizzy
She Wolf – Shakira
That’s Not My Name – The Ting Tings
Dog Days Are Over – Florence + The Machine

New favorite cover

Last night I was watching Parenthood, one of my favorite dramas on tv right now. There was a cover of “You’re the One That I Want” by The Lennings. This is a beautiful version of this song in my opinion. Originally it was sung as an upbeat song but I think this version gives it a haunting feel but in a good way. I hear pain and undying love in it more than I ever have before. It was like rediscovering this song. As soon as I heard it I went to download it.

Although, I’m not sure why it shows someone making tea…

What is one of your favorite cover songs?

Bootie Camp Playlist

Last month I decided it was time for a new Bootie Camp playlist. So for the last few Bootie/Boot Camps I’ve been using this playlist to take us from warm-up through ab work.

I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
Let’s Get It Started – Black Eyed Peas
Evacuate the Dancefloor – Cascada
Good Girls Go Bad – Cobra Starship
Right Round – Flo Rida
Bulletproof – La Roux
Gone Daddy Gone – Gnarls Barkley
Party Rock Anthem – Lmfao
I Know You Want Me – Pitbull
Keeps Gettin’ Better – Christina Aguilera
Say Hey (I Love You) – Michael Franti
Dynamite – Taio Cruz
Moves Like Jagger – Maroon 5
Tightrope – Janelle Monae
Pumped Up Kicks – Foster the People

It’s just under a hour long and will keep you pumped up the entire time.

What are some of your favorite workout songs?

Workout state of mind

I didn’t work out today but I did sit down and create a Bootie Camp workout for Saturday. I’ll share it after I give it but I’ll say I’m super excited about it. I was looking at this article and it gave me ideas so I decided to just write out my ideas.

The article that inspired me is called “A workout at work: 12 office exercises.” If you get past the goofy looking pictures, there are actually some good exercises to do at work and at home or the gym even. What I love about the article though is it gives a 1 to 3 rating for difficulty, sweat, and humility. The only one I’m not so sure about is jump squats because who is going to do jump squats in the office?? Not I and I have dumbbells under my desk!

In other news, LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem has been in my head all day. It makes me want to bust a move because “everyday I’m shufflin’.'”

New Music

On the way to the gym yesterday (more on that further down) I heard this beautiful song:

I’ll admit, it made me tear up but it’s such a beautiful song that I came home and downloaded Christina Perri’s album. I was in a download mood last night and ended up downloading two other albums I’ve had on my list for a while. If you haven’t listened to Grace Potter & The Nocturnals yet, you should. I also downloaded Rachel Platten‘s album. One of my friend’s introduced me to her through YouTube a while back.

The Gym and Your Friends
I’m much better about working out in the afternoons but sometimes it’s hard to get to the gym in the afternoons. So when I left work yesterday I texted a friend I knew was going to the gym and said I wasn’t motivated. She told me that seeing her could be my motivation. So then I felt guilty and went..I mean you can’t really tell your friend they’re not motivation enough because for one it’s rude and for two, it’s totally not the case. Knowing someone is looking for you to be at the gym and workout alongside them…even if you don’t talk…is motivation. And if you do talk, your workout goes so much faster!

No, not the trend of planking. Real planking.

I’ve been working on holding my planks and if you ever check out my Workout Log page then you may have noticed I’ve increased my endurance on them. I worked up to holding them for 30 seconds to 60 seconds. Now I can hold one for 90 seconds to 2 minutes depending on how fatigued my body is. Typically I do them after my Curves circuit workouts. Two minutes seems to be my wall though. I’ve held them for 90 seconds and then 30 seconds and last night I held 2 60 seconds sets. I’m trying to work my way up to 3-4 minutes but I’m not there yet. I have full confidence I can do it though with practice. I remember when I first started doing them I could hardly pull myself up.
