I had a fantastic holiday weekend! Thursday, July 4, I started my day with a super sweaty cardio and training session.
I started with 6 minutes on the Stairmill followed by 20 on the treadmill. I did some speed intervals on the treadmill. By the time I got to my trainer, I’d already burned 731 calories! For realz. Fortunately, she took pity on me and didn’t make me do squats. We’re doing the 30-Day squat challenge and that day was supposed to be a rest day. So since she knew I’d been killing it with the squats for 3 days and I had an intense warm-up, she mostly worked my core and arms. Sure, my lower body was worked but it wasn’t the main focus. Ya know?
After my workout, it was time to relax! My guy came over and we hung out with the roomie most of the day. I roasted up chicken sausages, peppers, and onions for “dogs.” We had mini bell peppers stuffed with string cheese as a side. There was also a lot of chips/guac and wine involved that day.
Friday I was back to work but took off a little early for some bonus time with my guy. Followed by drinks (prickly pear maragaritas!) with some friends. Saturday was a perfect day with my guy. It started with breakfast and a little shopping. That evening we had dinner and sat by the water for a while before seeing World War Z. If you’re into zombies at all….go see that movie! It was great! It’s nothing like the book so if you’ve read it, don’t expect it to be. You’ll really enjoy the action and suspense of this movie!
Sunday I hit the gym for a stairmill and treadmill workout followed by cleaning and then laziness.
So how did I feel about my health and fitness over the holiday weekend? So-so. I felt pretty good about working out since I got in a serious new groove with the cardio sessions. It was the first time I’ve really worked on the stairmill after my trainer got me on it. It’s a serious calorie burner and sweat inducer. I enjoyed food over the 4 days. I ate what I wanted for the most part and I enjoyed ice cream and other sweet treats. While I don’t regret it, it is the reason I’m back on a strict/serious discipline plan today. I don’t believe in depriving yourself when you’re trying to lose weight, but I do believe it takes discipline and decision making. I didn’t do either of those very well over the 4 days. My weight shows it. So back to working on it! More on that in another post.
Every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot, but the Grinch, who lived just north of Whoville – did not.
The Grinch hated Christmas – the whole Christmas season.
Now, please don’t ask why; no one quite knows the reason. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. Or it could be that his head wasn’t screwed on just right.
But I think that the most likely reason of all… may have been that his heart was two sizes too small.
It’s that time of year where I watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas almost every night. Not the Jim Carrey version, the original (and only in my opinion). It’s airing tonight on ABC at 8pm. I can quote the entire movie and probably annoy anyone who watches it with me.
I was hoping to decorate for Christmas last night but I was tired when I got home so I caught up on DVR and watched The Walking Dead. So tonight after a (much needed) workout, I’m headed home to watch my favorite Christmas movie of all time and start decking the halls.

Are you watching The Walking Dead? If not, you should. It’s so good. But now I have to wait until February for a new episode!! Oh the horror.
Hi from the road again! This time I’m in Dallas.
I’m still without internet and cable at home so I got up and got moving to Curves early this morning for my workout. After cleaning up and packing a suitcase I went over to Starbucks to get some work done before heading to the airport.
The plane was about a hour late due to weather. Even though I was only on the plane for 4 hours I felt like I was on the plane for 3 days. It just felt like a long flight for some reason. Once we got to the hotel we quickly decided we wanted dinner. We went to Ziziki’s, a Mediterranean restaurant near by. We split a carafe of white wine sangria, which was perfectly refreshing after being out in the Dallas heat (106 degrees). We then each got the Greek burger. It was a lamb burger on flat bread with lettuce, tzatziki sauce, tomato, and cheese with roasted potatoes on the side. It was amazing. Fresh and light but hearty enough to cure my hunger. We both agreed we could eat that burger every week (if not multiple times a week) with no problem.
Now I’m curled up in the comfy hotel bed watching tv and catching up on the interwebs.
I spent all day Saturday watching Harry Potter movies. We watched from about 10:30am to 11:15pm. Holy marathon, Batman. Sunday we went to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. It was great! The battle scene was amazing. But now I’m sad it’s over. I was so immersed in Harry Potter world that now I’m sad there’s nothing new for me.
After the movie I spent all afternoon unpacking. Almost everything is unpacked now. So when I return on Wednesday night I can just chill out. Even though I won’t have cable or internet or my roommate. Oh well, cable and internet will be in my world again on Friday.
What’s your favorite kind of cuisine? I love Mexican food. I could eat it daily and not tire of it. I mean, that’s what I say because fro yo doesn’t count as a cuisine, right?
Good Sunday afternoon, peeps! It’s been a perfect mix of productivity and fun today. I slept in after quite a long week. I made breakfast (eggs and apple chicken sausage) and then settled in to watch Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. I intend to see the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 but I have only seen the first 2 movies and I haven’t read the books. So we’re starting over from square one since it’s been a while. I actually think I want to read the books but I think I want to see all the movies first. I’m typically not a fan of the movie if I read the book first. Right now I’m enjoying the movies, so I’m afraid it would ruin it for me. Plus if I tried to read the books before seeing the movies, it’d be December before I could watch them.
After the movie was over I got to work piling things together to take over to the new apartment. After a very sweaty move that involved multiple trips on mine and the roommate’s part, I took a quick shower and met a friend for a Starbucks break. Iced tea and a lemon loaf for a lunchtime win!
Then it was back to the new apartment for some unpacking. Now I’m home trying to cool off and figure out what dinner can be before settling in for Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Today started earlier than I would’ve liked but it turned out just fine. After dumping off stuff at Goodwill I came back home to go through all the clothes I own. I have all clothing and bedding either packed or ready to pack. After finishing that up we headed out to the pool for a bit:
Yes, that’s a recycled picture but I was over in the corner near that table you see there and the lifeguard was close by and I still can’t figure out how to turn my Blackberry’s shutter sound off. I didn’t want to seem like a creep. A sunny pool is a sunny pool.
After cleaning up it was out for Mexican and margaritas. That hit the spot like you don’t know. Then we went to see Super 8.
Review of Super 8
I loved this movie. It’s about a group of friends in a small Ohio town who witness a major train crash while making a movie. Shortly after the strange crash, unusual events around the town begin happening like disappearances and weird events. They try to figure out what’s going on (naturally).
Since it takes place in 1979 there are a lot of funny little things that take you back to that time. Like the appearance of Walkmans.
It had me laughing throughout, it kept my interest and kept me guessing as to exactly what was going on until almost the very end. Even once I put all the pieces together it kept me wondering how they would get out of the predicament. Go see it. It’s worth it.
